Association of Small & Medium Enterprises (ASME)
MOU Signing Ceremony between ITE and the Association of Small and Meduim Enterprises (ASME)
On 24 January 2013, ITE and Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (ASME) signed a memorandum of understanding to formalise their partnership in student development and training. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Mr Chan Chong Beng, President/ASME and Mr Bruce Poh, Director & CEO/ITE. The signing was witnessed by Ms Irene Boey, Council Member/ASME and Mr Eden Liew, Principal/ITE College East.
This MOU will enhance the education experience of our students, as they will receive training, mentorship and employment opportunities from SMEs. Students will have a taste of the real-work environment and pick up knowledge and skills that will speed up their learning process. One initiative that will encourage this is the ‘Jobs-for-Trial’ Programme. This Programme will provide ITE students and alumni with paid work opportunities during school holidays, or while they are waiting to be enrolled in NS or further studies. This is a practical scheme that will enable them to pick up valuable skills.
Students keen in entrepreneurship can also participate in a Mentorship Programme. By having mentors who can share their real experiences and challenges faced, and provide advice, we hope more of our students will be inspired to be entrepreneurs one day.
The ASME, meanwhile, will assist ITE in promoting its industry project services to raise the capability development of ITE staff. The association will also give out the ASME awards each year to students who demonstrate the spirit of entrepreneurship.
Under the MOU, the ITE and ASME will also organise the ASME Forum to raise awareness of SMEs to students and share SME career opportunities.
