The contingent of 20 ITE-CD Lionhearters from ITE College East attended the SCDF Appreciation Dinner for volunteers hosted by our Ex-President of Singapore, Mr S R Nathan at The Istana on Thursday, 15 September 2011. Among the attendees were Guest-of-Honour, Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister, Co-ordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs.
The CD Lionhearters Club, launched in 2009, was an initiative to engage tertiary students in emergency preparedness. There are now 250 CD Lionhearters from ITE College East and Singapore Polytechnic. In his address, Mr Teo further honoured and thanked these lionhearters for their voluntary participation in the coming Mercy Relief Overseas Humanitarian Relief Rebuilding Project at Mount Merapi, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in December 2011. The team, ledy by Mr Boo Wei Ping will be supporting SCDF in fire fighting plus first aid assistance.
