+ACT is a first-time campaign initiative by ITE College East to instill a sense of civic-mindedness amongst the student population, with direct application towards the use of our toilet facilities.
It is an acronym for Positive Action for the Care of Toilets. Over the years, there have been numerous reports of our toilet facilities being vandalized and soiled by inconsiderate users. Effort and resources were spent to rectify such incidents and yet, the negative actions continue. It is timely that we address the root cause of such problems - changing the mindset of students and inculcating in them the ideals of being considerate and gracious in their use of public amenities.
Using a catchy slogan and colourful collaterals, the campaign will span a period of 2 years. Starting with strong and firm message slogans of "Do Act Responsibly", "Do Act with Consideration", "Do Act Conservatively" and "Do Act Selflessly", stickers and posters are placed within each student toilet in campus. Banners have also been placed in campus at strategic spots with high student traffic to generate awareness.
A simple campaign launch planned for Tue 24 May 2011 was officially opened by our Principal, Mr Eden Liew. The launch also featured a humorous skit on students using the toilets on campus, hilarious toilet dance based on the famous Wondergirl's Nobody song, as well as a 'Hygiene Awareness & Social Etiquette' talk by Mr Sanjay of the Restroom Association of Singapore.
Moving on from the launch, the messages over the next 2 years will focus on cultivating positive behaviour amongst students and shaping them into civic, responsible and productive citizens.
Lastly, do check out the +ACT photo exhibition displaying current state of toilets on campus and the 'Learning Pavilion' showcasing sanitization issues from Restroom Association of Singapore put up at our Atrium.
