The National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) was launched with the aim of encouraging youth to develop personal qualities of leadership, self-reliance, perseverance and a sense of responsibility to themselves, to society and to the nation.
In order to qualify for the gold awards, participants of NYAA Gold need to undertake a variety of voluntary and challenging activities in each of 5 areas, namely Service, Adventurous Journey, Skills, Physical Recreation and undertake a Residential Project. The NYAA is one of the most comprehensive and prestigious framework for development of leadership skills in youth.
This year 7 students of ITE College East were among some 170 youth receiving the NYAA Gold Award from His Excellency President S R Nathan on 7 Oct 2010 at Nanyang Polytechnic. They are:

One of the NYAA Gold Award Winner, Mohammad Nabil, the third President of our Student Council, had this to say about his experience: "My whole experience with NYAA has taught me discipline so as to be consistent in what I choose to take up. Not only that, it also encourage me to further hone my leadership skill as well as my passion to serve the community. I have also learnt to juggle between studies, family, friends as well as my own self. It has definitely been a holistic experience and I hope to further be able to continue the passion in serving the community through Gold Award Holders Alumni".
