The Metta Shine Night is an annual extravaganza that brings out the vibrancy in the Metta beneficiaries through song and dance. It is also a fund raising event that benefits more than 900 beneficiaries to cover the operational costs of Metta’s nine centres located island-wide. These centres include Disability Care, Medical Care, Student Care and Special Education centres. Currently in the second year of the CE - Metta Community Partnership, the Metta Shine Night was held at the ITE College East Auditorium on 10 Nov 2008 (Saturday). Mr Michael Gray, Vice President of the National Council of Social Services was the Guest of Honour. The College Directorate team led by Mr Tan Seng Hua (P/CE) also showed their support by gracing the occasion.
ITE College East was once again proud to be the co-host of this mega event, roping in our ever caring team of some 100 staff and student volunteers to render their support in various roles such as ushering, traffic marshalling, logistics, handicraft sales and make-up for the performers. In total, there was around 800 guests and 200 performers for the event.
In addition to supporting the event behind the scenes, our students also volunteered to perform for the audience. Ncrew7, comprising 7 Engineering students, and Kamsani from the Nitec in Electronics course, put up 2 performances which were very well received by the audience. Ncrew7 wowed everyone with their nifty footwork and upbeat Hip-Hop Dance, whereas Kamsani melted the audience’s hearts with his melodious and expressive vocals. Furthermore, one of our students, Yee Ling (or popularly known as Orange) from the Higher Nitec in Logistics Management course, also was the co-emcee for the night with our Metta counterpart. She kept the audience glued to their seats with her lively emceeing and confident delivery.
With such a strong spirit of volunteerism and care from the Senior Management, staff and students, ITE College East was indeed set ablaze under a flame of warm hearts, thus making the event a success.
It was encouraging to see so many staff and students embracing the ITE Care culture and this is indeed the driving force that keeps us going! As a College, we will continue to strive and make a meaningful impression on the lives of our students, fellow colleagues and the community.
